The Timex Marlin reissue

This is a review that I wanted to do a few years ago but decided to hold off on to see how the watch in question held up over time. 

I picked up a silver dial Timex Marlin reissue back in 2017. I really liked the watch (so much so that I picked up the black model whose images you see here) but I was a little iffy about the quality of the movement.  It isn't that I had a bad experience or anything like that but the movement in the Marlin is what looks like a Seagull ST6 without its automatic powertrain. It's not terrible but it's not known for its quality either.  In any event, after three years of regular use, the watch and its movement have held up just fine. 

The Marlin is a watch whose time has come again.  34-35mm men's watches were considered pretty standard back in the mid twentieth century and are now coming back into style today. In terms of specifics, the new Marlin measures 35mm in width (including the crown) 41mm from lug to lug, 9mm thick and has an 18mm band lug width. The movement is a hand wound mechanical like the original and the watch face has no lume. The watch has a snap on style case back and is rated at 30 meters water resistance (which I would personally take with a grain of salt)

It took a while to get used to wearing such a small watch after years of wearing watches that were 40-45mm wide. I like it now though. It's very light, fits under shirt sleeves without fuss and really looks terrific to my eye. If you can catch it on sale, sub $150 prices direct from Timex aren't hard to come by.
